Secure Encrypted Backup

It's all over the news headlines; it seems there is a story every week about sensitive data being compromised or stolen, leading to identity theft, corporate espionage or other forms of computer crime. With large amounts of sensitive data being stored on easy to conceal removable storage devices like flash drives and external hard drives, many corporations are taking measures to secure sensitive data from theft. In each of the cases we read about, the culprit is likely one of these forms of portable media.

CMS Products has developed solutions to back up data in a highly secure encrypted format to external backup devices. CMS Products BounceBack Enterprise software with its patent pending split-key encryption technology allows users to secure sensitive data backups via Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) 128 and 256-bit encryption and a pass phrase. The primary benefit of split-key encryption over standard encryption is the ability maintain a “Custodian” encryption key. If the primary user of the backup device is unavailable, the custodian key can be entered and thereby decrypts the data. If the backup drive was lost or stolen, the person in receipt of the device would not be able to access the sensitive data stored on the device.

For example, your finance department may send employees out of the office to a conference or to work from home. Some of the information on their backup drive is highly confidential, contains social security numbers, account information, etc. If this information were lost or stolen, the cost to your company could potentially be significant in terms of lost stock valuation if news of the loss or theft were announced and the story made news.

As with all of our BounceBack software versions, BounceBack Enterprise maintains the ability to create a bootable backup of the computer operating system, applications and data, providing not only a powerful tool to secure data, but an effective backup and disaster recovery solution.
