1. Does BounceBack Ultimate backup software support Instant PC Recovery using USB on all computer models? - BounceBack Ultimate will support Instant PC Recovery in most cases, however, some older model computers that do not offer the USB as an available bootable device port from within the system BIOS are not supported. Users should check with their system manufacturer on compatibility with external USB bootability.
2. Does BounceBack Ultimate backup software create an IMAGE backup? - No. BounceBack Ultimate saves the files from your computer in native file format, just as they are currently saved, without compression or any modification. The primary advantage here with Native File Format is you can access your files from any working computer simply by browsing the contents of your backup drive.
3. If my hard drive gets infected with a virus will BounceBack Ultimate prevent infection on my backup drive? - No. Users should make sure they are protecting their computer with a current version and frequently updated anti-virus program. Preventive measures can be taken by scheduling incremental backups at longer periods, or alternating backups between two backup hard drives.
4. What's the difference between GHOST or Image type backup and BounceBack Ultimate? - Backup programs that create an IMAGE of a hard drive are creating a compressed "point in time" backup. If you restore an Image backup, what you will get is a representation of the data at the time it was backed up. To this, you would need to append any incremental data that may have changed since the Image was created, . BounceBack Ultimate works slightly differently. If you make a full system backup today, then change files tomorrow, and backup again the day after that, BounceBack Ultimate will append only what has been modified or added since you backed up, including newly installed programs or changes to your Operating System. If you perform Instant PC Recovery using BounceBack Ultimate, the recovered hard drive would be considered much more current than if you had created an Image backup weeks or days ago.
5.Will BounceBack Ultimate backup onto CD's or DVD's or tape? - Not at this time. BounceBack Ultimate is designed specifically for hard drive type backup. CD's and DVD media can become unreliable if not handled with extreme care.
6. Is Instant PC Recovery the only way to do disaster recovery using BounceBack Ultimate? - No, there are actually three methods that can be used assuming you have performed a successful full system backup.
- Instant PC Recovery - start your system from the external backup drive. You can run from this mode until you are able to either fix the problem on your primary drive, or perform a full system recovery to either a replacement hard drive, or to the existing hard drive if it is in working order.
- CMS Rescue CD - We include a Rescue CD with all CMS ABSplus backup systems, and also offer the Rescue CD with CD/Box copies of BounceBack Ultimate. Start your computer with Rescue CD in the CDROM drive and invoke the boot from CD. Following the on screen prompts, Rescue will connect to the external hard drive or CMS ABSplus backup drive and perform a byte for byte restore from external drive onto the internal drive.
- Drive Swap - All CMS ABSplus backup systems are designed to easily come apart. With this method you would remove the disc drive from the enclosure and install it in your computer, replacing the damaged or corrupted hard drive. Your computer should boot up as normal and include all recently backed up data, programs and system settings.
7. What Operating Systems does BounceBack Ultimate run on? -
BounceBack Ultimate will install and run on Vista 32, Vista 64 and Windows XP. We do not support Windows 2000 or Windows 98.
8. What's the difference between BounceBack Ultimate and BounceBack Essential?
BounceBack Ultimate is our full featured backup and disaster recovery program. It includes the following additional features not found in BounceBack Essential:
QuickRestore, Backup Set Creation, Parallel Backup, File Synchronization, File Versioning and Data Encryption.
BounceBack Ultimate also includes a CMS Rescue CD for performing full system recovery in cases where Instant PC Recovery are not successful.
9. Is BounceBack available for Mac or is it just Windows backup software?
BounceBack Ultimate is the current Windows release which supports Windows XP and Vista Operating Systems. We also offer BounceBack Professional on the mac side which includes similar functions to BounceBack Ultimate. With BounceBack Professional for Mac it is possible to startup your Mac directly from an external hard drive. BounceBack Professional also backs up files in native file format so the files are always easily accessible from any working computer.
10. What are the advantages of hard drive backup compared to online backup?
Hard drive backup software programs like BounceBack allow faster access to your backed up information in the event of computer trouble. If your computer has had a significant malfunction that prevents connection to the Internet, it may not be possible to gain access to your online backup easily, however, with BounceBack Ultimate, all of your files are stored on the hard drive in easy to access native file format, so you can get back to work right away. With BounceBack's Instant PC Recovery mode, you can even run your computer directly from the external hard drive, a feature not found in other backup programs, particularly not in online backup offerings.
Hard drive backup is more economical than online backup. If you subscribe to an online backup service, over time, your monthly subscriptions can add up, particularly if you are backing up the entire hard drive online as most online backup services charge for additional bandwidth. External hard drives can be an extremely cost effective option. Creating a hard drive backup using BounceBack Ultimate can bring you both cost savings in addition to Instant PC Recovery, quick relief from any computer malfunction.
